McDonald is proud to recognize Travis LaNeve, who was celebrated Wednesday as part of the “Twenty Under 20” awards co-sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, AVI Foodsystems, and Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley. He was nominated by his instructors at TCTC, and we couldn’t agree more!
This program highlights 20 outstanding young leaders under the age of 20 for their academic achievements, volunteer work, leadership, and involvement in extracurricular activities. With 65 nominations submitted this year, judges shared how difficult it was to select only 20 honorees, making Travis’ accomplishment even more impressive.

For Travis, this recognition holds deep meaning. “It’s a big honor, something I strived for and am very proud to receive,” he shared. His leadership stands out daily, especially in his roles as President of the National Technical Honor Society and Senior Ambassador, positions that reflect the hard work, character, and dedication he brings to his classes. Travis is especially proud of his dependability, teamwork, and the positive example he sets for others.
Travis has also committed to serving our country. He has enlisted in the United States Navy, where he plans to pursue Nuclear Propulsion Engineering, the elite field responsible for powering and controlling the engine rooms on nuclear aircraft carriers. Inspired by a strong military family tradition, with both grandparents, cousins, and uncles having served, Travis scored an impressive 88 on the ASVAB, qualifying him for higher placement, and also passed the Navy’s advanced placement test.
Reflecting on his journey, Travis shared how meaningful his growth has been: “I came from a tight-knit group to going somewhere where I knew no one at TCTC. It was a big change, but I’ve made great experiences and will cherish my memories from both.”
Congratulations, Travis! McDonald is incredibly proud of you and all that you’ve accomplished, and we can’t wait to see what your future holds.
