Mrs. Sanson’s physics students put their skills to the test with a hands-on catapult project that combined creativity, engineering, and math. Students designed and built their own catapults, then calculated the speed of their projectiles and determined the optimal placement of a target when launching from a height of one meter.
After days of building before Thanksgiving break, students tested their catapults, collected data, and calculated projectile velocity. Using the quadratic formula, they determined the time of flight and precisely positioned the target, aiming to hit the center. Their final score was based on the best of five attempts.
Real-world problem solving, teamwork, and critical thinking all rolled into one exciting project.
